What kind of things do we do on and off campus?

Bible Study Programs

We have a number of small to medium size groups that meet weekly for Bible study, spiritual conversation, fellowship and support.  Go to the "weekly event" page for more details and a list of the groups we sponsor and support.

  • Off Campus Trips and Outings

Each semester we also try to get students to experience what the area may offer with day trips to the surrounding area interest sites such as Midnight ski/tubing, fall color tours, parks and recreation areas.

  • Counseling and Spiritual Direction Services

Pastoral counseling, pre-marital counseling and spiritual direction are all available through the Protestant Chaplain’s office.

Spiritual direction is a relationship that raises awareness of the presence and call of God in and through circumstances and encounters of your everyday life.

  • Mission, Service & Social Justice Events

Mission and social justice activities and opportunities transform those who participate.  Each of us are called to be Christ’s hands and feet in this world.  Each semester, opportunities are provided to do just that.

Alternative Spring Break and Summer mission opportunities await those who want to make a difference.

Program Presentations to Local Church Groups

The student leadership and chaplain is available as a program resource for local church groups for programs during the year.  We can develope a program for your group,

  • TGIFF (Thank God it's Fun Friday) at FSU

TGIFFs are scheduled through out the year.  These are usually fun stress releasers that build relationships and expand our social networks.  Fall TGIFF at FSU include activities such as:

If you have an idea for a Fun event then share it with the President of the group Andre Glenn— we want your ideas.  Sign-up for some of these events are needed when transportation is involved.  Sign-ups will be available in multiple ways:  website, facebook, email, at bible study and worship.

TGIFFs at FSU are safe, fun and a better alternative choice to the Frostburg party scene.

One of UCM’s missions is to provide healthy, safe alternatives to the cultural pulls students sometimes feel on a college campus.  BE Counter Cultural and join SNL at FSU and bring a friend.

  • Sunday Night Worship / Prayer service

We do not have a Sunday morning worship service on campus because we really want to encourage students to stay connected to a worship community that is related to their home church.  However when students don't make it to Sunday morning worship we do have a brief Contemplative Prayer service on Sunday evenings at 6:30 in Cook Chapel.  The Circle of Prayer provides a variety of prayer expeirences each week.  Click here for more information.

 Worship and Prayer Opportunties

Various times during the semester UCM sponsors worship events and prayer opportunities.  Click here for current prayer opportunities.

We also have an open chapel during the weekdays from 8 to 5.  Each week a new prayer station has devotional and guided meditation materials.

Retreat Ministry

FSU students, faculty, and staff are offered a number of retreat experiences over the course of the academic year.  Retreats offer people a period for intentional personal prayer, reflection, sharing, and meditation.  Some of the various options you may want to explore are:

Twilight Retreats

Twilight Retreats from 5:00-9:30 pm is offered to students, faculty and staff. The evening includes a presentation, time for quiet prayer, conversation and dinner.

Overnight or Weekend Retreats

Each semester, the United Campus Ministry takes a weekend away from campus to pray and reflect. Through presentations and discussion, songs and prayer, as well as fun activities, students have the opportunity to explore more deeply their relationship with God and their commitment to living a Christian life.

Busy Person's Retreat

The Busy Person's Retreat is a retreat experience for busy people with classes, jobs, families, and other activities who find it difficult to commit a whole weekend to a conventional overnight retreat; instead, you will schedule guided meditation time and a regular meeting with the Chaplain. You "go on retreat" in the midst of your busy life on campus.
